She is learning the fine balance of when to push herself and when not to. Merci is recovering from her encounter of the plague steadily, she is getting stronger but still needing to rest. "I never thought you'd be the bleeding heart that wanted to help people." -Mandy O'Dell, Plagues of Caprica The main focus is Merci and Jack, and how they discover answers, what happens when they get answers, and some consequences for pursuing those answers. Plagues of Caprica is wonderfully balanced between being plot driven and character driven. Particularly in Plagues of Caprica, we see mostly the sick (and not the main other issues) and learn how the illness came to be. The culture within Caprica is very flawed Caprica is suffering under an epidemic of sickness, the male nobles' constant breeding, and an uncaring governing official. There was some steamy kisses that I skipped over. Eventhough the book has a main character who is a teen, I think this book is on the older side of YA, maybe even venturing into NA, due to some topics touched upon, but reads younger. One of those intense scenes involve animal cruelty/experimentation (not unlike how Merci was saved, we get a more in depth view). There are some intense scenes and mature topics.

I adored the tiger animal companion, Captain and I cannot get enough of the tiger characters. I would like to start my review by saying I originally thought The Fires of Caprica was a Duology, and then upon finishing Plagues of Caprica, I learn there will be more to the series.
